Overall...great June trip to south Texas. I got a ton of work done at the ranch and had some time to shoot a few photos while I was riding around. Things were drying up and temps were hitting triple digits, but rain showers in the weeks before my trip had kept things greener than expected. And, although drought conditions are stressful on wildlife, it sometimes makes finding and photographing them easier. Knowing where to find subjects during seasonal shifts in range can be invaluable for a wildlife photographer.

I'll be shooting around my home in Oregon for the next couple weeks, and then heading back to south Texas...so I hope to have more photos to post soon.

Until next time...
Our neighborhood is beginning to resemble a painting! All the fruit trees along the sidewalks are in bloom and everyone's yard looks like a crayon box full of colors. Can't wait for all the blooms to turn into plums and cherries!!brad watsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03701519829645786269noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2966744682197007588.post-86104602819326742422011-03-23T17:16:00.000-07:002011-03-23T17:16:31.632-07:00Ready for Summer in OregonWell...we've been getting out when the weather allows and we're ready for our first full summer in Oregon! Had a great trip to Cape Lookout near Tillamook, on the beautiful Oregon coast last weekend. We saw grey whales on their northerly migration, a juvenile bald eagle soaring right over our heads and some spectacular views off the trail on the way in.
I just happen to have a great client down there and he let's me do all kinds of cool stuff on his ranch. Last week I flew the ranch in an R44 helicopter and performed an aerial census of the wildlife on the ranch. We saw some nice bucks, javelinas, coyotes, and a few other things...but flying around in the chopper was cool enough...even if we hadn't seen anything...and thanks for the help Scott.

I'm posting a couple photos...you have to click on the one below to really get a feel for it. Got shots of numerous herps, some new birds, and other interesting stuff. Anytime I get a shot of Atrox...it's a good trip. We witnessed a large emergence of Texas Toads and Couch's Spadefoot...a rare week of rains brought them all out of the ground and they were hopping around everywhere Wednesday night. It was great having another herp lover to ride around with until 3 am and look for critters...thanks Clay! I'll try and get the good photos edited and in the galleries soon.

more later...

brad watsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03701519829645786269noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2966744682197007588.post-52520273144496948072009-06-16T14:31:00.000-07:002009-06-16T14:32:51.613-07:00Got back from south Texas a few weeks ago and only had one or two images to show for my travels. The trip was part consulting and part photo shoot... and needless to say the consulting went better than the shoot. The wind was blowing 40+ miles per hour during my two days on the ranch but I still managed to get a couple good shots of a Texas tortoise (Gopherus berlandieri). They are pretty rare in certain parts of the state due to collection for the pet trade...they are listed as threatened and I feel lucky whenever I see one! See image BW0498 in the "Reptiles and Amphibians" gallery...brad watsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03701519829645786269noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2966744682197007588.post-53516359887746922292009-06-16T14:04:00.000-07:002009-06-16T14:30:43.812-07:00First Blogok...i've officially entered the blogosphere...any cool adventures from photography or work trips, vacations, etc will be posted here.

enjoy...brad watsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03701519829645786269noreply@blogger.com0
